Last Showing of The Farm: November 13, 2009

Not doing anything tomorrow night? Come on out to the last showing of Bridget Bolger's, The Farm. A few new paintings based on abandoned grain elevators by Bridget will be on display as part of the show. The Farm is all part of The Chicago Arts District's Second Friday, taking place from 6-9 PM tomorrow night in Pilsen.

If you missed the opening, no worries. We are participating in the 39th Annual Pilsen East Artists' Open House taking place September 25-27, Friday at 6-10 PM and Saturday/Sunday from 12-7 PM. Come on down!

 

The Farm: Opening September 11, 6:00 - 9:00pm

This show of Bridget Bolger's paintings is inspired by a mid 1950’s auction catalog depicting the buildings and their insurance values comprising Her Grandparent’s Farm. The imagery  of the vacant home and surrounding barns invokes an almost forlorn nature as their past lives are reflected in the worn surfaces of the buildings and the land.

First off, thanks to our neighbor and fellow-gallery owner of Artpentry, Floyd for building big beautiful frames overnight. Also a BIG thanks to Jed for driving home the Powell's artwork while we stayed behind and put up the new show. If you did not make it to the Second Friday opening we will be having an additional show (a closing if you will) later this month for our family and friends!

 

B.Bolger Retrospective: July 10, 6:00 - 9:00pm

A retrospective featuring more than 35 works in various media spanning the early 1990s to the present, this retrospective is an unprecedented opportunity to survey the depth and breadth of Bridget Bolger's artistic career.

Thanks to everyone who came out for the opening, most of all visiting artists Rich and Frankie Powell (Bailey too!). The show will be up through early July so come on down to Pilsen!

 

Spirits and Spaceships: June 12, 6:00 - 9:00pm

A collection of work by husband and wife Frankie and Rich Powell, showcasing two uniquely different visual interpretations on spirituality and the magic within the scope of life.

Frankie's paintings deal with the spiritual relationship to one’s self and the natural world. Her work is populated by dreams, visions, shamanic journeys and symbols of the mystical underworld. They represent a world that surrounds us but one which is often overlooked.

Rich's paintings and prints visually display the magical influence which toys and pop culture symbols have on young minds, raising the iconic representation of these simple playthings to mythical proportions. His work seeks to recapture the childhood vision of wonder held within the brightly painted plastic and tin toys.

Bright colors and a common palette unify the two worlds represented by these artists who have shared a studio for the past 17 years.

South Side School Fundraiser: Photos

Thanks to all who came out and celebrated on March 28th at the gallery - it was a great evening! We have no doubt the school will be a huge success with such a great teacher in place and supportive network of friends and parents.

First Showing Last Night

While we were not quite ready for prime time, we opened the doors and met a ton of great people that came out for 2nd Friday. This morning, a peaceful calm had settled in the space (or at least the nervousness passed which had been building the past few weeks getting ready). It was very sunny this morning so I snapped a few photos with the lights off.

We also gave Annabel some wall space which she choose to display one of her favorite drawings, below.

May 8th will be the official opening of the gallery - or party rather, so mark your calendar!

2nd Fridays Open Gallery Night: April 10, 6:00 - 9:00pm

The Chicago Arts District invites the public to its monthly Open Gallery Night every 2nd Friday of the month. This Friday, South Halsted Gallery officially opens their doors with a showing of new work by Bridget Bolger and Scott Multer.
